The Fifth International Conference on Language Attrition and Bilingualism (ICLA 5) will take place at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – Porto Alegre – Rio Grande do Sul – Brazil, 7 – 9 Oct 2026.
This conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from around the world who are working to deepen our understanding of language attrition and its effects on bilingual development. We encourage discussions on attrition within bilingual and multilingual contexts, drawing from diverse fields such as theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, neurolinguistics, sociolinguistics, heritage language studies, language policy, and education.
We invite proposals that engage with language attrition from diverse theoretical, empirical, and applied perspectives. We welcome submissions from academic researchers, independent scholars, and practitioners working in relevant areas.
